Domain Design Agency Ltd was set up by
Andrew Vernon and Jason McKinlay.
The main reason the company formed :
Over the years the 'internet boom' would just get bigger, with more people coming online everyday, we knew that many companies would seek a heavy online presence or require a professional graphic design company especially with magazine advertising rates getting so high and the cost of living rocketing up. Having been in the graphic design and web industry for many years, we could see lots of companies trying to jump on the band wagon with very little experience, and were producing websites with terrible design and quality. This is where we come in. With our design and website building skills we would make sure that we would be a cut the rest, with our in-depth design skills, website knowledge and professional attitude.
We don't see the need for a company like ours to advertise anywhere else but the internet, as this is our sole market. If you put your project in our hands, you will see the same results. Most of our clients are also gained by 'word of mouth', usually by someone very happy with their new website and the results they have gained or are really happy with various design work that we have produced for them.
Below is a little about the 2 directors
Andrew Vernon
I've been a graphic designer since 1990. When I was sixteen I had an apprenticeship in a Kall-Kwik print shop with a day release course to the College of Building and Printing, where I gained an HND in Graphic Design (amongst other qualifications) and had the time of my life, in the process.
During the apprenticeship placement in the print shop, I gained valuable skills that are still greatly used today for design and layouts. From there I then went to a design studio in Glasgow and got a position as a graphic designer. On a day to day basis I would use my creation skills to create excellent visual layouts for clients. This is where I really started to heavily use computers for my design work.
After working in a studio department for 2 years, I got a job as a graphics supervisor for Scottish Auto Trader. This company realised my potential and made me a studio manager. This is where I started my website design career. After being in charge of several magazines and the creation of websites, the magazine industry seemed to be taking a turn for the worse. This is when me and Jason got together and decided to form "Domain Design Agency Ltd.' (over a few pints). The company was born from an idea that we both had excellent communication skills and a great talent for web / design work that would give us the edge over our competitors.
Jason McKinlay
I have been in the design industry now for over 18 years. I began my career working as a studio junior for a design and exhibition company based at Park Circus, Glasgow. I wanted to work straight away from school and this gave me a great foundation to build on, as I saw a lot of good design work, but I also got all the nasty jobs to do!
While working as a studio junior I attending the Glasgow school of Art for a design and layout course, and from what I learned here, I knew I wanted to build up my qualifications, so I then studied for my HNC in Design at Cardonald College. After completing the course and learning a little about the good side of being a student! I achieved my HND at the College of Building and Printing the following year.
After this course I had my HND in my back pocket and I had the experience of working as a studio junior - I headed away from the good old college life and back into the workforce. As things turned out I was more talented than I knew, as at the end of year exhibition at the College, I was offered a Graphic Designer position by an employer at the show.
From here I worked on various magazine and newspaper ads and layouts, and completely revamped one of their titles so much, that the manager of our competitor title offered me a position that I couldn't refuse, and all within six months of leaving college!
Working on various titles within the publishing industry for the next 15 years, I gained a lot of experience of running both a production and studio departments. Working my way up the team, and within five years, leading the team and managing a workforce of over 35 members to meet tight weekly deadlines. Working this amount of time in the design industry gives you a sharp eye, to know instantly when something is just right or not....and with both Andrew and myself that is actually what you get.
With us both being managers for this length of time, we are extremely focused to stay on budget and get the job complete for you. Over the last seven years we have headed up a large amount of highly successful websites within the UK, and we always aim for 100% for customer satisfaction.
